Psalms, 82

A melody of Aʹsaph.

1 God*1 is stationing himself in the assembly of the Divine One;*2 In the middle of the gods*3 he judges:

  1. “God.” Heb., ʼElo·himʹ.

  2. Or, “God.” Heb., ʼEl; LXXVg, “gods”; Sy, “angels.”

  3. Or, “godlike ones.” Heb., ʼelo·himʹ; LXXVgc, “gods”; Sy, “angels”; T, “judges.”

2 “How long will YOU keep on judging with injustice And showing partiality to*1 the wicked themselves? Seʹlah.

  1. Lit., “lifting up the faces of.”

3 Be judges for the lowly one and the fatherless boy. To the afflicted one and the one of little means do justice.

4 Provide escape for the lowly one and the poor one; Out of the hand of the wicked ones deliver [them].”

5 They have not known, and they do not understand; In darkness they keep walking about; All the foundations of the earth are made to totter.

6 “I myself have said, ‘YOU are gods,*1 And all of YOU are sons of the Most High.

  1. Or, “godlike ones.” Heb., ʼelo·himʹ; Gr., the·oiʹ; Syr., daʼ·la·hin; Lat., diʹi; T, “like angels.”

7 Surely YOU will die just as men*1 do; And like any one of the princes YOU will fall!’”

  1. Or, “just as earthling man.” Heb., keʼa·dhamʹ.

8 Do rise up, O God,*1 do judge the earth; For you yourself should*2 take possession of all the nations.

  1. “God.” Heb., ʼElo·himʹ.

  2. Or, “will.”
